Prototype Design
Service Provided
Fleadh can undertake hardware and software design and small
scale manufacturing of prototype and production standard equipment. We Specialise specifically in power electronics systems for motor drives and power conversion systems,
with the emphasis on 'greener' power high energy efficiency and renewable sources. The harware development will include detailed IGBT/MOSFET switching analysis and gate
drive optimisation, expert magnetics design of chokes and transformers, and small signal monitoring and control digital/analog circuit design. Fleadh also has contacts
with other commercial consultants and academics in power electronics and motor drives and can draw together expertises over a wide range of fields for designing and developing complex systems.
Hardware Design
Prototype system development
will include the schematic circuit design, PCB layout and hardware build including leaded/surface mount component placement and enclosure/heatsink construction.
Fleadh aims to design power conversion systems which have energy efficiency in excess of 90%, at commercially a competitive cost. We have designed prototype
inverters for motor control and grid-connect inverters with measured efficiency of 95%. We also designed high-efficiency isolated switching power supply stages,
including PFC for standard SMPS applications, and voltage boosting-stages for renewable energy sources. Bespoke solutions for your motor control or power conversion
application can be turned around very quickly because of our experience of designs covering a wide variety of systems and power levels.
Software Development
Modern power electronics systems now include some
form of embedded digital control circuitry, and FEL has significant experience in developing firmware for embedded microcontrollers and DSPs. This experience
includes the knowledge for controlling electric motors and is ideally positioned to help with the move to digital power supply control. Experience is also
offered on FPGA digital logic design using VHDL which can be necessary for more complex power converter topologies much as multilevel inverters.
System Testing
Prototype systems are thoroughly tested to
ensure that they meet the required specification including detailed efficiency loss-breakdown analysis, pre-compliant EMC assessment and operating
requirements under all power source and thermal limits. Detailed rotating machine testing under various speed/torque conditions is also undertaken.
FEL can also offer services as an independent design reviewer.
