FEL has developed a full range of simulation software programmes for power converters and motor drives. The software is written in C++ and objects have been developed to model the behaviour of passive components and active power switches. Further models have also been developed to allow rotating machines and other magnetic components to be incorporated within the system simulation. Software classes for FPGA based digital control and microcontroller/DSP control have been developed to more accurately simulate a real power electronics system. These tools allow FEL to quickly develop prototype power converters and motor drives to meet the required specification. In order to more accurately model drive systems, software includes the additional capability of importing finite element analysis data.
Switched Reluctance Motors & Drives
A full suite of modelling and simulation software for the design of a complete switched reluctance drive system.

PMSM Three-Phase Inverters
Three-phase variable frequency drive inverters for controlling ac machines, such as PMSM, are simulated using a bespoke software package. This can also be adapted for three-phae grid-tie inverters and active frontends.
Single-Phase Grid-tie Inverters
A single-phase grid-tie inverter simulation package allows the design of the power electronics hardware and control software in order to meet the low current harmonic distortion requirements of G83.
